RIO DE JANEIRO, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The Copa do Brasil and the Brazilian national women's league will resume on August 26, more than five months after being halted because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The men's Serie B and Serie C seasons will start on August 8 while the national men's under-20 league is slated to begin on September 23, according to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
"What gives us peace of mind is that a robust plan has been prepared not only by the CBF, but by clubs and specialists who gave us their opinions so that we could propose a protocol for football's restart to the health ministry," CBF president Rogerio Caboclo said in an interview published by the Globo newspaper on Sunday.
Caboclo also guaranteed that the Serie A would begin on August 9, as announced last month. He said that clubs had agreed to play at neutral venues if their local authorities did not approve the return of competitions.
The Copa do Brasil was suspended after the first leg of the third round while the Brazilian women's top division was halted following the fourth matchday.
Brazil has over 1.5 million confirmed coronavirus cases, more than 64,000 of which have been fatal.
