Quito, the current epicenter of COVID-19 in Ecuador, continues to register a sustained growth of infections, with 14,857 confirmed cases so far. Authorities attribute the increase in the capital city to residents' non-compliance with the imposed curfew and other preventive health measures.
On Wednesday, some of the Ecuadorian beaches were reopened after five months of quarantine, in a bid to reactivate the tourism sector.
