BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TASHKENT -- Uzbekistan is planning to allocate 1.9 billion U.S. dollars to the healthcare system in 2021 amid the raging COVID-19 pandemic, president's press service said Tuesday.

During a government meeting to discuss the parameters of the state budget for 2021, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed the need to take into account the ongoing pandemic and the decline of global economic activity, said the press service.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 7,597,063 with 46,790 new confirmed cases recorded in the past 24 hours, showed the data released by the federal health ministry on Tuesday.

The total death toll rose to 115,197, including 587 newly reported.

NUR-SULTAN -- Kazakhstan will cut the number of international flights from Monday next week to reduce imported COVID-19 cases, the press service of Kazakh prime minister said in a statement late Monday.

Besides inbound passengers by air and land borders, international transport drivers are required to provide a PCR certificate with a negative result, which is valid in three days, the statement said.

BEIJING -- One new imported case of COVID-19 was reported in Beijing on Monday, the municipal health commission said Tuesday.

A 27-year-old woman arrived in Beijing from Jordan on Oct. 13, and showed symptoms such as fever and headache while under quarantine in a designated hotel.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil on Monday began to test the efficacy of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) tuberculosis vaccine in treating COVID-19 patients.

State-run research center the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) began testing on healthcare workers after the vaccine proved effective in reducing respiratory infections, according to state news agency Agencia Brasil.
