LA TRINDAD, Benguet, Oct. 20(PIA) -- The province of Benguet recorded the highest single-day COVID-19 infection on Monday (October 19), with 36 bringing the total confirmed cases to 596.
Of the 36 new cases, 34 cases are from Benguet while the two were swabbed and admitted in Benguet but are residents of other areas. 18 of the cases are from La Trinidad, five cases each from Buguias and Itogon, four from Mankayan and one case each for Tuba and Kapangan. Most of the new cases are police officers recently deployed in the different municipalities.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Health Office reported five COVID-19 related deaths in the province from October 1 to 12. Four of the deaths were senior citizens with co-morbidities.
Four were from La Trinidad which has now five COVID-19 related deaths while one was from Buguias now with two deaths. Itogon recorded the first COVID-19 related death in the province.
As of Oct. 19, Benguet has 596 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 336 recoveries, 252 active cases and eight COVID-19 related deaths.
Governor Melchor Diclas continues to remind the public to always follow the prescribed health protocols and the minimum health standards such as wearing of face masks and face shields, washing of hands, maintaining proper hygiene and cleanliness, practicing social distancing and avoiding mass gatherings to lessen the contraction of the COVID-19.
Diclas also reiterates the advisory to the public to stay at home if there are no essential errands or transactions required outside especially senior citizens who are among the most vulnerable individuals who could be infected by the COVID-19 or those living with senior citizens or individuals with health conditions.
