Media's 2024 rookie class rankings
In just a few short weeks, theNFL calendar will officially flip to 2025with the start of the new league year.
Before we close the book fully on the 2024 campaign, several media outlets recently put together their final rankings of the NFL's rookie classes.
The Giants' rookie class garnered plenty of praise throughout the season due to the standout performances of several players, which shows in the media's rankings.
CBS Sports' Chris Trapassoranked the Giants No. 2 in his 2024 rookie class rankings, noting the Year 1 hits on wide receiver Malik Nabers, cornerback Dru Phillips, and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr.
"Nabers might be the best receiver in the NFL someday (soon), and Phillips and Tracy were outstanding finds later in the draft," wrote Trapasso. "Tracy is a strong contender for second-best rookie back behind Irving in Tampa Bay."
Only the Washington Commanders, whose rookie class was headlined by Offensive Rookie of the Year winner Jayden Daniels, ranked higher than the Giants.
NFL.com's Gennaro Filicealso extended praise towards the Giants' rookies, as the deputy editor ranked all 32 rookie classes and handed out grades for each team.
Filice gave the Giants' 2024 rookies an A- while ranking them as the No. 6 first-year class in the league.
"Quibble with the decision to not take a quarterback if you like -- Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr. and J.J. McCarthy were all available at No. 6 overall -- but New York added a bushel of starters, beginning with rookie Pro Bowler Malik Nabers," wrote Filice. "Combining a dog mentality with dynamic playmaking ability, Nabers posted spectacular numbers (109/1,204/7) while catching passes from an unspectacular cast of quarterbacks (Daniel Jones/Drew Lock/Tommy DeVito/Tim Boyle). And he wasn't the only first-year player to infuse New York's offense with some much-needed juice.
"Tyrone Tracy Jr., who spent most of his college career as a wide receiver, showcased dual-threat ability out of the backfield, while Theo Johnson started 11 games at tight end before breaking his foot on Thanksgiving. Defensively, the secondary remained suspect in 2024 -- particularly at outside corner -- but the Giants added a pair of versatile building blocks in nickelback Andru Phillips and safety Tyler Nubin. Phillips especially stood out as an edgy playmaker."
