A massive march took place yesterday, Saturday, May 30, in downtown Lima, Peru, with hundreds of protesters chanting in unison, No more Fujimori, Long live the struggle of the Peruvian people, and The blood that has been shed will never be forgotten. Various civil society organizations came together to speak out against the candidacy of Keiko Fujimori, who is running for the presidency of the Republic for the fourth time.
The various banners and flyers highlighted the countless allegations and total rejection of Fujimori Higushi, because Fujimorism represents impunity, corruption, authoritarianism, the passage of pro-crime laws, the protection of mafia interests, and the deepening of the political, social, and economic crisis affecting the country, the call to action stated.
The demonstrators came from different districts and zones of Lima (with more than eight million voters), who have organized into fronts and collectives to defend their vote. Participants included the Platform for Democracy, the Coordinating Committee of Leftist and Progressive Organizations (COIP), the Popular Patriotic Front, the Patriotic Front for Democracy, Mundo Verde, the Popular Womens Front of Peru, and the Citizen Democratic Front (SMP).
Also participating were the National University of Engineering (UNI), the parties Nuevo Per, Venceremos, and Juntos por el Per, the Communist Party of Peru Patria Roja, Ahora Nacin, CENAJUPE, the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP), Las Micaelas de Huaycn, the Plurinational Council of Tawantinsuyo, and the Historic Citizen Agreement (AHC).
Citizens continue to mobilize in the capital, Lima, and simultaneous rallies have been reported in provinces across the country, including cities such as Arequipa, Cusco, Chiclayo, Ica, Huancayo, Huaraz, Tacna, Trujillo, Hunuco, and Pasco, which are located in the northern, central, and southern regions of the country.
