The demands of students at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) have been met. After several days of protests and the occupation of the Dinthilac building (the Rector's Office), university authorities and students signed an agreement to suspend implementation of the new pension system, remove students from the occupied premises, and apply restorative justice measures that do not punish the protesting students.

In addition to the commitment to forward the request to suspend the new pension system, the university pledged to establish a dialogue committee on pensions and scholarships, which will work with an Advisory Commission on the matter. A meeting is scheduled for Sunday, May 24.

The agreement was reached following a period of discussions between university authorities and the students. The students were protesting the reduction in the lowest pension categories established by the university for admission to the institution. The measure, which was set to take effect in 2027, would have impacted access to the PUCP, a humanistic university with an inclusive character.
