U.S. chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff visits Venezuela

WASHINGTON, June 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine visited the Venezuelan capital of Caracas on Wednesday, according to his office.

"Gen. Caine participated in bilateral discussions with senior interim government leaders and U.S. Embassy leadership and staff, and visited the Embassy's Marine Security Augmentation Unit," his office said in a news release.

It was Caine's first official visit to the oil-rich South American country, the release said.

Francis Donovan, commander of the U.S. Southern Command, visited Caracas in May.

The U.S. military raided Venezuela on Jan. 3, seizing by force Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
